The Los Angeles Digital Empowerment Council (DEC) is active and well on its way to offer Los Angeles community members and leaders a summary of its research findings. The journey began on January 15, 2010 at The University of Southern California’s campus when the Alliance for Digital Equality brought together a diverse group of policymakers, thought leaders and community members including Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who was the keynote speaker at the Los Angeles Digital Empowerment Summit.  We assembled a Los Angeles DEC that is comprised of 60% Latinos and whose General Chairs are California State Senator Alex Padilla, the Chairman of the Telecommunications Committee in the California General Assembly and entertainer, Sheila E. 
 
In the past weeks, Sheila E. and Senator Padilla have led significant conversations to assess the need for affordable broadband and technological access in the underserved communities of the metropolitan area of Los Angeles. The purpose of these meetings is to create policy change through digital advocacy by offering a real examination of the need for technology in underserved communities. The Los Angeles Digital Empowerment Council is set to present it's summary findings to the public in early June 2010.
