Toni Smalls Deputy Director of Administration/Grant Manager
Ms. Smalls serves as Deputy Director of Administration and Grant Manager of Public Computing. As ADE’s Deputy Director of Administration, Ms. Smalls is in charge of administration and cultivating collaborative Digital Empowerment Councils in underserved urban and rural areas throughout the United States. She works closely with the Executive Director to support internal programs and to carry out the mission of ADE. As Grant Manger Ms. Smalls is in charge of monitoring, supporting and ensuring effective life cycle management, administration, and compliance for all grants from federal and state agencies. Responsibilities include monitoring sub-recipient awards, maintaining fiscal reporting with federal and state agencies, and managing Project Coordinators.
Prior to joining ADE, she was an advocate for progressive public policy where she was dedicated to the education, health and economic empowerment of others. Ms. Smalls’ dedication to public education and civic engagement earned her an appointment by the 51st governor of Alabama to the Alabama State Commission on National and Community Service in 1999. Ms. Smalls served as the State Director for Alabama New South Coalition, a state-wide non partisan political organization, from 2000 – 2005. Ms. Smalls has taken an active roll in numerous state-wide, local and issue-based campaigns, always supporting public policy that can improve the quality of life for others in her community.
She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. & volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.
