The Miami Herald, By Nancy Ancrum

Julius Hollis is the founder and chairman of the Alliance for Digital Equality, an Atlanta-based nonprofit corporation. The Alliance recently established a ''digital empowerment council'' in Miami.

Q. What is the Alliance for Digital Equality?

A. ADE is a nonpartisan consumer-advocacy organization, founded in 2007. Our primary mission is to ensure equal access to new technology in underserved communities -- particularly urban and rural areas -- that will have an impact on African-American and Hispanic consumers.

We act as a bridge between policymakers and those who may not always follow technology issues. We try to help the public understand how legislation and regulatory policies regarding new technology affect them. Normally we work with elected government officials at every level.
