Qualcomm formalized Wireless Reach in 2006 and it has grown into a global initiative with 56 projects in 28 countries which empower underserved communities through the use of 3G wireless technologies.
Through its Wireless Reach initiative, Qualcomm works together with local and global partners to bring wireless technology to developing communities around the world. And with wireless communication delivering everything from better healthcare to improved education, from business opportunities to safer streets, Wireless Reach is finding innovative ways to improve the quality of life.
The main objective of Wireless Reach is to spur the innovative use and adoption of wireless technologies and solutions in key international and domestic markets. Therefore, Wireless Reach project locations are based on several factors, including the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) needs and goals of a community; wireless coverage; lack of landline access; relationships with local non-governmental organizations and operators; and/or the ability to showcase new innovative wireless solutions.
Qualcomm participates in projects where specific government policy priorities can be met such as rural connectivity, education and health care needs or increased teledensity. Additionally, Wireless Reach seeks scalable and sustainable projects. http://www.qualcomm.com/citizenship/wireless_reach/
