Maya Angelou Elementary opened in the fall of 1995 as a Saturn Project School with an emphasis in writing. It is named after renowned African-American author, Dr. Maya Angelou, who attended the school’s dedication ceremony on December 15, 1995. Maya Angelou Elementary is a controlled-choice Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth Grade public school in Miami-Dade County. Maya Angelou Elementary offers an Extended Foreign Language program, provides tutoring for students and offers extracurricular activities such as: Art Club, Broadcasting, Drama, Future Educators of America, Journalism and Violins.
